Mumbai: Heavy rains continue to batter Maharashtra, especially Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Raigad and Pune districts, causing inundation and inconvenience to people living on river banks.

According to an official statement, Ratnagiri has received a record 1781.7 millimeters of rainfall so far this month, which is the highest in the last 40 years.

Considering the grim situation, 12 teams of NDRF have been deployed to assist the state disaster response force and local authorities in carrying out relief and rescue operations.

Indian Navy too has joined rescue operations in Ratnagiri, where Khed and Chiplun areas are the

worst affected.

In Khed, rain water entered a COVID care centre, forcing the authorities to move atleast 35 patients who were on oxygen support to another hospital.

Train and road traffic too remains adversely affected with the rail line from Badlapur to Khopoli section and Konkan Railway remains suspended.

Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Navi Mumbai too continue to witness heavy rains with reports of flooding, felling of trees, landslides and damages being reported continuously.

With Mithi River in Mumbai flowing above danger mark, Mumbaikars have been asked to remain alert.
