The hilly district of the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu is getting pounded by very heavy rain for the past 24-hours.
 
Upper Bhavani in the district has received 31 centimeters of rain in the last 24 hours and Avalanche area 22 centimeter rain.
 
The India Meteorology Department in Chennai has warned that the situation may continue for the next 24 hours.
 
Two teams of the State Disaster Response Force SDRF comprising 40 personnel are camping in the district.

Disaster Response Force NDRF team is reaching the district headquarters Ooty very soon.
 
All the rivers in the Nilgiris are in spate.
 
The district collector Innocent Divya told reporters at Ooty that all the schools there have been converted into shelters for the people to stay whenever required.
 
She said community kitchens would be installed wherever people come for shelter, along with medical teams and transport arrangements.
