Heavy rain lashes Mumbai

Heavy overnight rains lashed the coastal Konkan coast, including Mumbai suburbs, resulting in inundation in several places, including the Vasai-Virar township, where road transportation was affected badly, on Friday.  
Reports of heavy rains in the last 36 hours were received from Naigaon, Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar, which is located on the Western Line’s Palghar district. However, there was no impact on the Western Railway train movement.  Several low-lying areas of the township were inundated and in many places, water gushed into ground floor flats. 
Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district recorded 120 mm rainfall. There were delays on the Central Railway route.



 There were some minor delays in flights in the morning due to congestion over the Mumbai airport. According to Regional Meteorological Observatory of the IMD, Vasai taluka received more than 150 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending 08:30 hrs on Friday. 
In 36 hours, it received more than 200 mm rainfall, according to sources in the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation. According to data collected from the Konkan coast, Harnai recorded 290 mm rainfall, while Srivardhan and Dapoli recorded close to 170 mm. The weathermen has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for Konkan-Goa coast over the weekend. The Met office has asked fishermen to exercise caution as Arabian Sea could be choppy.
