The family of an 18-year-old woman in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, allegedly performed her cremation hurriedly after her mysterious death. The woman's charred remains were found in a secluded spot in an area near Mutluru of Vatticherukuru mandal of Guntur and raised the suspicion of the police.

The cops suspect the case to be that of 'caste-based' killing. The same, however, will be ascertained after the police conduct a thorough investigation. As per reports, the woman was in a relationship with a man from another caste and had tied the knot with him.

It is suspected that the woman's family members bludgeoned her to death as they were upset with her decision. Reportedly, the woman was murdered two days before her body was found.

Case of unnatural death lodged by local cops

When the rumours of the murder

started doing the rounds among the locals, Village Revenue Officer (VRO) filed a complaint with the police. After being alerted, a police team visited the spot of the incident and lodged a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

As per Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Prashanthi, the deceased woman's parents are being interrogated to ascertain why they conducted a hurried cremation, The News Minute reported. He added, "The parents are saying that the deceased died by suicide as she was unable to bear a long-standing stomach ache. They have also claimed that they attempted to rescue her after being alerted by neighbours, who saw flames and fog."

Guntur (Urban) Superintendent of Police (SP) Arif Hafeez said that the situation is "suspicious" and the body of the deceased has been completely charred. A probe is underway.
