The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Tuesday conducted surprise inspections at hospitals in the Arilova Health City area following complaints that unauthorised groundwater extraction was affecting drinking water supply in nearby residential localities.

GVMC Water Supply Department superintending engineer Pallamraju said inspections revealed that some hospitals, despite having GVMC bulk

water connections, were relying on bore wells instead of municipal supply.

Officials also found that certain hospitals had no GVMC bulk water connections and were extracting groundwater without permission.

The civic body has issued notices directing the hospitals to obtain GVMC bulk water connections within seven days and immediately stop using groundwater through bore wells.
