A 17-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped by a bus driver and conductor inside a moving sleeper bus after they offered her a lift amid heavy rain in the Delhi-NCR region, police said on Monday.
The incident took place around 11.30 p.m. on August 4 during the bus’s nearly 60-km journey from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Sector 63 in Noida and then towards the Outer Ring Road, where the girl was allegedly abandoned.
The accused,
driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep, 29, have been arrested, while police have seized the bus for forensic examination.
The incident prompted the Delhi government to order stricter safety measures for buses, including functional GPS-based vehicle tracking systems and panic buttons.
The rules also prohibit curtains and unauthorised films on windows and require bus operators to ensure proper verification of drivers, conductors and other staff.
