New Delhi: Government has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras to ten thousand by March 2024. Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry said, the number of Janaushadhi stores has increased to eight thousand 366 and all the 736 districts have been covered.

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, PMBJP was launched in November, 2008, with an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all. The Ministry said, the medicines available under PMBJP are priced 50 per cent to



90 per cent less than that of branded medicines. This will ensure easy reach of affordable medicine to the people in every nook and corner of the country.

The Ministry said, the product basket of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana comprises of one thousand 451 drugs and 240 surgical instruments. During the last financial year, PMBJP has achieved sales of over 665 crore rupees. This has led to savings of approximately four thousand crore rupees of the common citizens of the country.
