A woman legislator of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has demanded that ‘short dresses’ should be replaced with salwar kameez as school uniform to curb sexual harassment or molestation of girls.
Konda Surekha said in the state assembly that there should be a dress code especially for girls in Class 10.
“Many schools have short dresses for girls as uniforms. The government should implement a dress code to replace these short dresses with salwar kameez,” the legislator

said during a debate on sexual harassment.
Surekha, who represents the Warangal East constituency, added salwar kameez is necessary as it covers the body. She made the suggestion while calling for strong action against harassers.
Surekha, who served as the minister for women’s development in undivided Andhra Pradesh, called for debarring students found guilty of harassment.
“We should ensure that such students don’t get admission in any school,” she said.
