Guwahati: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the 1st Sustainable Financial Working Group  (SFWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency today in Guwahati with the theme ‘One Earth. One Family. One Future’ and with the motto “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.  

Addressing the media, Geetu Joshi, adviser to the Ministry of Finance said that the two-day long 1st Sustainable Financial Working Group (SFWG) meeting will be attended by over 100 delegates from the member countries of G20, guest countries and different international organizations. 

The three main agendas of the meeting are- Mobilizing timely and adequate resources for climate action; Enabling finance for sustainable development and Capacity building for the entire eco-system of sustainable development, added Mrs Joshi.

Chandni Raina, adviser to the Ministry of Finance said that through this G-20 meeting Assam will benefit immensely as it will showcase the rich tradition, heritage and culture including the rich flora and fauna of the State to the global audience.

The Youth 20 Inception meeting will also be held in Guwahati on February 7-8 and will be attended by 250 delegates. Moreover, 400 students from various academic institutions in Assam



will also participate in the Youth 20 Inception meeting. This is the first of the various meetings to be held on the five Y20 themes across India in a run-up to the final Y20 summit in August 2023. 

The Youth 20 meeting will focus on the themes - Peace Building and Reconciliation, Future of Work Industry, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, Youth in Democracy and Governance, Health well-being and Sports.

Assam Government has completed its preparation to welcome the foreign delegates to the State and several delegates today visited places of importance like Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Gorbhanga Reserve Forest, Brahmaputra’s River Island and Brahmaputra Heritage Centre.

The Sustainable Finance Working Working Group is one of the important workstreams under the G20. It aims to mobilise sustainable finance as a way of ensuring global growth and stability and promoting the transitions towards greener, more resilient, and inclusive societies and economies. The group is tasked to identify institutional and market barriers to sustainable finance and develop options to overcome such barriers and contribute to a better alignment of the international financial system to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and Paris Agreement.
