Fresh Low-pressure System To Bring Heavy Rains To AP

A fresh weather system developing over Thailand is likely to move towards the east coast of India and bring heavy rain to south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The rains during the withdrawal phase of the southwest monsoon could help reduce the rainfall deficit and facilitate completion of kharif sowing in Andhra Pradesh. The state has recorded a 50 per cent rainfall deficit since June 1. It received 246.81 mm of rain against the normal 500.3 mm during the period.

IMD report said an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Thailand persisted over the region at 8.30 am on Thursday and extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. It is likely to emerge over the north Andaman Sea on Friday evening, under the influence of which a low-pressure area is likely to form around September 19. 

The system is likely to intensify gradually and move west-northwest towards the south Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast over the following three to four days. Reports indicated that it could develop into a depression.
