In a desperate bid to break free from alcohol addiction, four people turned to a local healer’s “herbal medicine” a decision that allegedly cost them their lives. The incident occurred at Imadapur village in Sedam taluk.
The deceased have been identified as Laxmi Narasimhalu Batagera (55) of Buragapalli, Nagesh Bheemashappa (22) of Madakal, Ganesh Rathod (30) of Dakka Thanda near Shahabad, and Manohar Rathod (35) of Bhimanalli Thanda in Chittapur taluk. They allegedly died after consuming the concoction on Wednesday.
Kalaburagi Police told media reporter that five people had come for treatment on
Wednesday. While Laxmi and her son had arrived from Buragapalli, the others had come from other villages. They had sought medicine from Fakirappa for alcohol addiction.
Fakirappa is said to have provided them with the medicine, and soon after consuming the herbal preparation, all five fell ill and were rushed to the hospital. Four of them died, while Laxmi’s son, Ningappa, is undergoing treatment at the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). Fakirappa, who has been providing such “traditional medicines” for five to six years and claims to come from a family of healers, has been arrested, police said
