Chennai:  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is "fine" after a heart surgery early Monday morning, her party said a day after she had a cardiac arrest at Apollo Hospital in Chennai where she was admitted on September 22.
Here are the 10 latest developments in this big story:
Sources at the hospital say that the 68-year-old politician is in critical condition, though her party, the AIADMK, said she is better after a heart procedure this morning.
The police has blocked all roads leading to the hospital where hundreds of the Chief Minister's supporters have gathered to keep vigil just like they had months ago, disbanding only when doctors said she had recovered.
Just days ago, the Chief Minister was moved from the critical care unit of the hospital to a private room fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
The politician is now being treated with ECMO or an Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation device, which means that she is being assisted in breathing and in heart functions. Expert said the line of

treatment can continue for weeks.
Four doctors from Delhi's premiere AIIMS institute have been sent to Chennai, said union Health Minister JP Nadda.
Top ministers of Ms Jayalalithaa's government began grouping at Apollo Hospital last night. In a series of tweets on the politician's health condition, the hospital asked for prayers for the leader's recovery.
As many as 900 troops from anti-riot police are on standby to be airlifted to Tamil Nadu to help maintain law and order, according to the Press Trust of India.
Yesterday, hours before Ms Jayalalithaa's condition worsened, her party said that she was fully recovered and was due to decide on when to return to her home.
For nearly three weeks, the doctors attending to her had also confirmed that she was considerably improved, could speak to visitors and no longer needed to be in hospital.
Jayalalithaa, "Amma" or "mother" to lakhs in Tamil Nadu, broke the state's tradition in May with a historic re-election. Till then, the state habitually elected her and rival DMK in turns.
