Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that no instructions have been given to banks for filling or not filling two thousand rupees notes in Automated Teller Machines ATMs. Ms. Sitharaman told Lok Sabha today that Banks make their own assessment of the amount and denominational requirement for ATMs on the basis of past usage, consumer requirement, seasonal trend, etc.
Replying to another question, the
Minister said, as per the Annual Reports of the Reserve Bank of India RBI, the total value of 500 rupees and two thousand rupees denomination banknotes in circulation as on March end 2017 was 9.512 lakh crore rupees and as on March-end 2022 was 27.057 lakh crore rupees.
She said, as per RBI Annual Reports, the indent for supply of two thousand rupees denomination banknotes has not been placed from 2019-20 onwards.
