Flood alert issued in areas near Cauvery river in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, flood warning has been issued in the low lying areas near Cauvery river in Salem district. People in many villages have been advised to move to safer places by the district administration. South west monsoon has been vigorous in north interior Karnataka bringing in heavy rain in Cauvery catchment areas. Water is being released from Krishna Raja Sagar KRS and Kabini dams in



Karnataka. 

This water is expected to reach Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu in a day. There is heavy inflow of water in Hogenekkal in Dharmapuri district. Salem district administration has issued flood warnings to nine villages including Cauverypuram and Chinna Mettur. Warning with beating of drums is being issued in low lying areas near Cauvery river in Salem. Fishermen and cattle grazers are warned not to go near the river.
