In Tamil Nadu, the sixty one-day fishing ban for mechanized boats has ended yesterday. Thousands of fishing boats set out for fishing since early this morning.

During the ban since April 15, the families of fishermen were given five thousand rupees each as their subsistence allowance. The fishermen prepared their boats for fishing since yesterday and stocked diesel, ice and food items for their venture into the sea.

The annual fishing ban is imposed to ensure the breeding of fish species and to ensure sustainability.
