The fishermen of Rameswaram have requested the repatriation of 11 rescued fishermen and one boat after the vessel broke down and ran aground in Sri Lanka’s Neduntheevu Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, 434 motorboats from Rameswaram set out for fishing in the Bagjalasanthi sea area after obtaining permission from the fisheries department.
At 3 am Thursday, a fibre motorboat without a registration number, belonging to Ramesh from Aathikadu, was fishing near
Neduntheevu when the vessel developed a mechanical problem and ran aground.
The Lankan navy, which has taken steps to take the boat to the Mayility fishing port, will also present the rescued fishermen at the Kayts magistrate court through the fisheries and aquatic resources department officials.
In this situation, the fishermen of Rameswaram have requested the Lankan government to repatriate the fishermen and their boat on goodwill, without filing cases.
