The Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR in a complaint over a "doctored video" of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, after the BJP alleged that the video showing Shah promising to scrap reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is fake.

The BJP alleged that the original video was of Amit Shah discussing the removal of the 4 per cent "unconstitutional" reservation for Muslims in Telangana, and it was edited to falsely depict the Union Home Minister advocating ending Muslim reservation, during a recent Lok Sabha election rally.

The Delhi Police, following the complaints, wrote to X and Facebook, seeking information about the account that posted this edited video.

Several social media handles, including official handles of Congress state units, shared the video, claiming that the BJP is preparing to end SC/ST reservation.

In one such post on Sunday, Jharkhand Congress tweeted, "Amit Shah's election speech went viral in which he

said that if the BJP government is formed again, OBC and SC/ST reservation will be abolished".

BJP leader Amit Malviya, on Saturday, alleged that Congress is "spreading an edited video, which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large-scale violence. Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about removing the unconstitutional reservation given to Muslims, on the basis of religion, after reducing share of SCs/STs and OBCs. This fake video has been posted by several Congress spokespersons. They must be prepared for legal consequences".

A senior BJP leader said, "We are receiving complaints from different parts of the country, and we will ensure that FIRs are filed in all these complaints".

In the run-up to the assembly elections in Telangana in 2023, Amit Shah alleged that the 4 per cent Muslim reservation in Telangana was "unconstitutional" and promised that, if voted to power in the state, the BJP would end this reservation and reallocate it to the SC, ST, and OBCs.
