The Supreme Court has said that the final hearing on the Cauvery water disputes case will begin from 11th of July this year. It said the hearing will continue for 15 consecutive working days.

The final hearing will be held on the appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against the 2007 award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal. A bench headed by Justices Dipak Misra yesterday said that all interim orders of releasing 2000 cusecs of water by Karnataka will continue to be in force till further

orders.

The Tamil Nadu government's counsel alleged in the court that Kerala is drawing water in excess to build check dams across inter-state Bhavani river, which is a tributary of Cauvery, for its irrigation project.

The allegations were denied by Kerala counsel who said the state is not using the Cauvery water to build the dam or the irrigation project. Responding to the contention, the bench, said the dam project cannot be stalled but the counsel for Kerala may give an undertaking that the flow of water will not be hindered.
