Female Elephant, Calf Die After being Hit by Train in Palakkad

A wild female elephant and its calf were killed after being hit by a train near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border at Walayar here, forest officials said on Thursday.

Forest officials said that the incident occurred late Wednesday night when the



elephant and its calf were crossing the railway tracks. 

The officials said the elephant and its calf were crossing the track to go back into the forest. They were hit by the train and dragged for several feet, they said.
