Farooq Abdullah Urges India to Speak Up on PoJK Killings

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and ruling National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday sharpened his criticism of the Central Government, urging New Delhi to speak out on the reported killings, unrest and human rights violations in Pakistan?occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). 

He argued that if the Government of India consistently describes PoJK as an integral part of the country, it cannot remain silent when people there face violence and hardship.

Abdullah said he had already appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister to intervene and take note of the deteriorating situation in PoJK. 

He stressed that repeated assertions about India’s claim over the region must be matched with concern for the people living there. “If PoJK is our part, then the Government should raise its voice over what is happening there. It should speak against the killings and ensure that the concerns of the people are addressed,” he said.
