Terming the repeal of the farm laws in Parliament a victory of the protesters, farmer leaders on Monday called an emergency meeting on December 1 to decide the further course of action even as they reiterated their demand for a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) of crops.

Farmers said the farm repeal law is a tribute to those farmers who died during the protests and they would continue their protests till their other demands are not fulfilled.

“The Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021, passed by the Parliament is a tribute to those 700 farmers died during the onggoing protests which is constiued.” Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said after the Parliament passed the farm laws repeal bill without any discussions.

Speaking about the repeal move of the government, Tikait said the farmers’ agitation will continue. “MSP (minimum support price) continues to be the bug. The protest will continue as other issues, including MSP, are pending,” he said.

The BKU spokesperson said farmer unions will not leave protest sites, mostly along the borders of Delhi, without talking to the Centre Highlighting that the farmer unions will open up the avenues for these talks, Tikait said the Centre wants farmers to end their agitation without reaching out to them.

Referring to their six demands, including legal guarantee for MSP and withdrawal of cases against farmers and compensation for those who died during the agitation, the leaders of 32 farmer unions from Punjab during a press meet at the Singhu border said on Monday the Centre has time till Tuesday to reply.

“This is a victory for us. We want withdrawal of cases against farmers and a committee to be formed on the legal guarantee of MSP for crops. “The Centre has time till tomorrow (Tuesday) to reply to our demands. We have called an emergency meeting of farmers’ groups on Wednesday to discuss the future course of action,” a farmer leader said.
