Farmers in Telangana's Nizamabad dump turmeric produce in front of BJP MP’s residence

Turmeric farmers in Telangana’s Nizamabad dumped their produce in front of BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind’s residence on Saturday after he failed to enact a turmeric board. Arvind had signed a non-judicial bond in March 2019 promising that he would enact a turmeric board in five days if he is elected to the parliament.

The protesting farmers said, “In the last three years, Mr Arvind could only get an allocation of Rs 1.92 crore for close to 1 lakh turmeric producing farmers. If you divide it between all of us, it boils down to less than Rs 200. All he did was deceive farmers by distributing a bond paper.”

the BJP MP on Thursday and said that over 90,000 turmeric farmers spread across more than 1 lakh acres of land were being cheated by him.

An RTI into the matter revealed the allocation to each farmer was merely Rs 200.

Holding the RTI, the farmers asked the BJP MP the reason for depriving the farmers and people of Nizamabad of their basic dues. They further accused the MP of making tall claims of allocating Rs 100 crore for a turmeric board while every farmer made only Rs 200 under his regime.

They also said it was Kavitha Kalvakuntla who took up the fight of the turmeric farmers of Nizamabad to Delhi and fought to bring the long-due turmeric board.
