Lucknow: A 45-year-old farmer allegedly ended his life by hanging himself from a tree in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district. The farmer, identified as Sukhram Bhadauria, took the extreme step two days after he got a bank notice over his failure to repay a loan.

On Wednesday morning, Bhadauria left the house to go to his farming field. After a few hours, a few locals found his body hanging from a neem tree outside the village and informed his family members about it. The police, after receiving information, rushed to the spot. They retrieved the body for autopsy and initiated a probe.

According to a report by The Indian Express, during the first wave of the virus pandemic, Bhadauria had taken a loan of Rs 50,000 using his kisan credit card. He, however, could not return the amount in time. This prompted the bank to send him a loan recovery notice. He was under extreme pressure to clear the loan. Under these circumstances, he took the extreme step, his family claimed.

"The body was

spotted by a few locals who informed the family. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination and based on the report, further action will follow. His family members claim that he took his own life as he was under tremendous pressure to repay his loan," the report quoted Achhalda SHO Tarik Khan as saying.

The police have not received any official complaint in connection with the death of the farmer. However, a case might be lodged on the basis of his post-mortem report.

In another incident, a young farmer died by suicide at his residence in Dheenampalayam village in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu earlier this year, reportedly after he was constantly abused and humiliated by a private money lending firm.

The farmer had taken a loan from the private financial firm to construct a house in Dheenampalayam's Simson Nagar locality. He failed to pay the EMIs due to financial issues. Following this, the loan recovery officials of the firm began abusing and humiliating him. This pushed him to end his life.
