The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of a senior IPS officer of Jharkhand, Anurag Gupta against whom a case had been registered last year for alleged misuse of his official position to interfere in the poll process. 

In a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission said, it was brought to Commission's notice that Gupta is holding the post of ADG, Special Branch in the state which is a sensitive assignment for the purpose of conduct



of elections. The Commission said he will report to the Resident Commissioner, Jharkhand at Delhi by this afternoon. 

The poll panel also made it clear that the IPS officer should not be allowed any leave and given duty which entails a visit to Jharkhand till the completion of the election process. The state will have Lok Sabha elections in four phases, with the first phase beginning on 29th of this month.
