Police took into custody hundreds of DMK leaders and volunteers and former ministers when they attempted road roko at different places in Tiruchy, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts on Tuesday in protest against the arrest of former deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
At Tiruchy, former minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Mayor M. Anbazhagan and a few hundred DMK volunteers were taken into custody when they
attempted to block the road at Anna statue, while another group of DMK cadre, including former transport minister S.S. Sivasankar, were taken into custody when they resorted to a road roko near the bus stand at Ariyalur.
Hundreds of DMK volunteers, led by MLA Elangovan, were also taken into custody at Karur for a similar reason, and at Tiruvarur, more than a 100 DMK volunteers, led by local MLA Poondi Kalaivanan, were taken into custody when they attempted a road roko agitation.
