The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the deep depression over Bay of Bengal is expected to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, today morning with a wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph guesting upto 65 kmph.

Puducherry has experienced 14 cm of rainfall around 3 pm  yesterday as rain continues to batter the Union Territory.

Normal life was hit and heavy waterlogging has seen in many areas, affecting the traffic movement.

The IMD forecast a heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places over the Puducherry and karaikal region during the next three



days.

Meanwhile, Chief minister Rengasamy declared holiday today, for schools ans colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal region.

While Talking to the media persons, District Collector Purva Karg said that a total number of 194 relief shelters have been opened in Puducherry region. Provision of a food pockets to the rain affected people are being arranged by civil supplies department.
 
One team of NDRF from Arakkonam has been requested to station at Puducherry to help in rescue and relief operations in the eventuality of any damages due to heavy rain, she added.
