Delhi traders and the Chamber of Trade and Industry have written to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, requesting the postponement or relocation of the proposed November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Highlighting the peak Diwali festive shopping period, traders expressed panic that the arrival of around ten lakh attendees and
20,000 vehicles could cause massive traffic snarls within a ten-kilometre radius, disrupting operations across 20 commercial markets.
While traders suggested shifting the event to Burari or Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, or delaying it until after November 10, Gandhi previously reiterated that the rally will proceed on November 1 unless the Chief Election Commissioner is removed.
