Residents in Delhi endured sweltering heat on Sunday as the maximum temperature in the capital crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark for the first time in the month of June this season.
Safdarjung, Delhi's premier weather station, recorded the maximum temperature at 42.1 degrees Celsius, while the Palam station saw the maximum temperature touching 42.6 degrees Celsius.
However, the highest temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday was registered in
south Delhi's Aya Nagar, while it stood at 42.3 degrees Celsius at Lodi Road, and 42.9 degrees Celsius in the central ridge area.
This came amid the India Meteorological Department warning that Delhi is set to face extreme heat with temperature as high as 44 degrees Celsius in the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next four days, warning residents to take precautions against heat-related discomfort.
