A Delhi court has ordered police to conduct a narco analysis test on 28-year-old man Aaftab Ameen Poonawala, accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walker and chopping her body into 35 pieces.

The court has also directed Delhi Police that third degree measures should not be used on the accused.

Consent of the accused is also necessary while doing a narco test. "I give my consent," Aaftab said when he was asked in court whether he was ready to get his narco test done?

The Metropolitan Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore directed the Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory to allow the investigating officer (IO) for conducting the narco-analytic test of the accused within five days.

"The IO is further directed not to use any third degree measures. MLC be prepared

as per rules," the judge said in the order.

Also known as truth serum, narco tests have been used for solving crucial cases in the past. The test involves the intravenous administration of a drug (such as sodium pentothal, scopolamine and sodium amytal) that causes the person undergoing it to enter into various stages of anaesthesia.

In the hypnotic stage, the person becomes less inhibited and is more likely to provide information which would usually not be revealed in the conscious state.

The order came after Delhi Police moved the court seeking narco test. Poonawala allegedly strangled his live-in partner and later sawed her body into pieces which he kept in a refrigerator for almost three weeks at his residence in Delhi Mehrauli area before dumping them across the national capital.
