Cyclone Arnab weakened from a "very severe" cyclonic storm to a "severe" one at 8.30 am on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The cyclone crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts, southwest of Yanam, between 2 am and 8 am, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 125-135 kmph and gusts reaching 150 kmph. The landfall process has been completed, with the storm's central region moving entirely over land, the IMD said.
The "very severe"
cyclonic storm started making landfall near the Andhra Pradesh coast earlier in the day. Coastal areas across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been battered by heavy rain, gusty winds and gushing seawater, as a result.
Trees were uprooted, roads were blocked, and power supplies disrupted as "very severe" cyclonic storm Arnab battered coastal areas across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Visuals captured the chaos and devastation caused by the powerful cyclone in various places.
