Senior IPS officer CV Anand took charge as Director-General of Police (DGP) at the State police headquarters in Lakdi-ka-Pul here on Friday.
He assumed charge after incumbent DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy demitted office on April 30 on attaining superannuation.
The state government finalised the appointment of Anand, a 1991 batch IPS officer, strictly in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by the Supreme Court in the ‘Prakash Singh’
case.
Anand did his schooling in Hyderabad Public School and graduated from Nizam College and did his MA in economics from Osmania University.
After clearing civils in his first attempt, Anand joined the service with his first posting as ASP in Warangal and served as district superintendent of police for the first time in Nizamabad. His first nine years of service was in Naxal-affected districts, where he personally led the forces and participated in exchange of fire and encounters, according to a police official.
