Vijayawada: Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy on Tuesday instructed officials concerned to take up construction of toilets extensively by interlinking Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGA), popularly known as the Upadhi scheme, with the Swachh Bharat Mission.

“Summer is the right time to take up the Upadhi scheme works in the state,” he stated in a video conference with district collectors.

Jawahar Reddy pointed out that the government has sanctioned more than one lakh individual toilets. All district collectors should thus

He also wanted water conservation works to be prioritised under the Upadhi scheme.

Principal secretary Sashibhushan Kumar said that individual toilet constructions have been taken up at a cost of ?951 crore by interlinking Swachh Bharat and Upadhi.
