Jammu: A selection grade constable of the Jammu &Kashmir Police on Wednesday attained martyrdom during an anti-terrorist operation in which one Pakistani terrorist Babar Bhai of Jaish-e- Mohammad terror outfit was gunned down by the security forces in the South Kashmir district of Kulgam. Three army jawans and two civilians also received injuries during the operation.

The police constable identified as Rohit Chib was serving in the special operations group for a long time and had earned out of turn promotions due to his gallantry in the past. 

The braveheart has left behind his pregnant wife, younger brother, sister and mother.   He was staying in the Jagti Migrant camp near Nagrota. His family had migrated from Kashmir valley.

As per police records, the killed terrorist was a categorized terrorist active since year 2018 in the areas of Shopian-Kulgam and its adjoining areas. He was wanted by law in several terror crime cases.So far 14 terrorists have been neutralized during the current year out of which 7 are foreign terrorists including 1 killed at LOC in Kupwara.

According to police, one police personnel, three Army soldiers and two civilians got injured during the operation. All the injured were immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment however police personnel SgCt Rohit Chib succumbed to his injuries



and attained martyrdom. The condition of other injured including two civilians who had sustained minor injuries is stated to be stable.

 The mortal remains of Rohit Chib were brought to Jammu early Thursday morning. Later he was cremated with full honors in the presence of top cops  including Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh.  Several local politicians, cutting across party lines along with a large number of local residents attended the last journey of the braveheart in Jammu. Paying rich tributes DGP Dilbagh Singh said selection grade constable Rohit Chib joined the police services in 2011 and had volunteered to work in the special operations group.

DGP said he was a brave policeman and remained in the forefront during operations. Last night he along with army jawans was conducting house to house search in the general area of Kulgam when a hiding terrorist opened fire and also lobbed a grenade. Rohit had received critical injuries while safely evacuating civilians being used by the terrorists as human shield.

Vijay Kumar,IGP Kashmir while interacting with media at Kulgam Thursday said that the owner and his family members where the killed terrorist was hiding deliberately misled the search team by saying that no terrorist was hiding in their house which led to collateral damage.
