A police constable from Anantapur was allegedly cheated of Rs 23.67 lakh by a man who posed as a woman through a fake social media profile and gained his trust over several months.

According to fourth town police, the victim, attached to the DSP office in Anantapur, received a friend request on Facebook from a profile under the name Valmiki Saisree. After accepting the request, he remained in regular contact with the person through chats and phone

conversations.

Police said the accused gradually developed a close friendship with the constable and allegedly sought financial assistance on various pretexts, including medical emergencies involving his parents.

The fraudster also claimed to own a valuable house site in Dharmavaram and promised to repay the money after selling the property. Believing the claims, the constable transferred around Rs 23.67 lakh in multiple transactions. He reportedly even pledged his wife's gold ornaments to arrange funds.
