Congress Minister Viswanathan on Monday extended his full support to the special resolution moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on making 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu' the opening song at State government functions and government-related events.
Speaking in the Assembly, Mr Viswanathan said the resolution had been accepted by the 8.5 crore Tamil people and welcomed the support expressed by several members in
the House.
Referring to the incident at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University on July 28, he said it amounted to an insult to the Tamil language.
He welcomed the ministers’ statements in support of the resolution following the incident. Viswanathan said 'Neerarum Kadaludutha', popularly sung as 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu', was composed by Professor P. Sundaram Pillai and featured in his famous Tamil play 'Manonmaniam'.
