Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released water from the Handri-Neeva project on the completion of Phase-1 canal expansion works.
On Thursday, he switched on the two motors at the Malyal pumping station in Nandikotkur mandal, Nandyal district, after performing Jala Harathi. The water release would resolve drinking and irrigation water
problems in Rayalaseema to some extent, as over 40 tmc water is available to the region, after 12 years.
Later, he visited the photo exhibition arranged by the water resources department. He examined the project alignment, ayacut and Krishna River Basin maps. He also viewed the flow of the water released from the view point at the pumping station.
