Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has extended his congratulations to Indian chess grandmaster Koneru Humpy for securing the bronze medal at the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Championship 2025 in Doha.
Humpy concluded the tournament with 8.5 points after 11 rounds, tying with Zhu Jiner of China and Aleksandra Goryachkina of
Russia. However, she was awarded the bronze after tie-breaks, including Buchholz and opponent ratings, with Goryachkina taking the title following a playoff.
A final-round draw against fellow Indian player B. Savitha Shri prevented Humpy from claiming what would have been her third rapid world crown, following victories in 2019 and 2024.
