A Class Nine girl student of a government school in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district set herself on fire after dousing diesel on her for being harassed by a minor boy, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Khurai area under Malthon police station limits, a couple of days ago, police said. According to the police, the girl used to travel in a bus to go to her school, nearly six km from her village of Khurai.
A minor boy had also been travelling in the same bus for the last six months. The boy started harassing her, leading the girl to take up the matter with her father. Her father had dissuaded the minor from harassing his daughter but the accused refused to heed to his advice.
Following this, the girl and her
father lodged a complaint in the Malthon police station in this regard, police said.
They however found the accused along with three of his associates waiting in front of their house when they returned home after filing the police complaint on Sunday evening.
The girl’s father was badly thrashed by the four minors who also threatened to kill him before leaving the place, according to the police.
The girl was shocked over the incident and went inside her house and set her on fire by dousing the fuel on her, police said.
She was rushed to the Malthon community health centre and later admitted to the Bundelkhand Medical College Hospital in Sagar when her condition worsened. A case has been registered.
