All arrangements have been put in place for the assembly elections as Kerala goes to the polls on April 9.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Ratan Kelkar, said campaigning wrapped up at 6 pm on Tuesday, marking the start of the 48-hour silence period. Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm, with 883 candidates contesting across 140 assembly constituencies.
The state has a total electorate of 2,71,42,952, including 1,39,21,868 women voters, 1,32,20,811 men voters, and 273 third-gender voters. This time, there are also 2,42,093 overseas electors and 53,984 service voters.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has added 24 auxiliary
polling stations, bringing the total number of polling stations to 30,495.
These auxiliary stations have been set up to accommodate excess voters, as the voter population per booth has been limited to 1,200. Kelkar mentioned that the auxiliary stations have been opened in Kasargod (5), Kannur (6), Malappuram (7), and Palakkad (6).
The EC has made arrangements for drinking water and seating for voters in the wake of rising summer temperatures in the state. Mobile phones will not be allowed inside the polling stations.
Voters must leave their mobile phones at counters specially arranged for the purpose.
