The Government has abolished the monthly charges on Digital Satellite Phone Terminal, DSPT and also reduced call rates to 1 rupee per minute. 

Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha yesterday said Defence as well as paramilitary personel will be able to make calls to their families using satellite phone for Rs 1 per minute from today, instead of the existing Rs 5 per minute.

Briefing the media in New Delhi, the minister said, from



Diwali day no monthly fee will be taken for using the service. He said, with this special Diwali Gift from Centre, Defence personnel can now talk without worrying about more expenses to their home and their Headquarters. 

DSPT service provided by BSNL is used by soldiers and officers of various army and para-military units deployed in remote and far-flung areas as no other means of communications are available in such areas.
