Centre Plans Extra Water Release from Bhakra Dams to Aid Haryana, Rajasthan

Union Home Secretary yesterday held a meeting in New Delhi to discuss the issue of releasing an extra 4 thousand 5 hundred cusecs of water from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Dams for eight days to meet the urgent water needs of Haryana and some parts of Rajasthan.

The meeting was attended by senior government officers and the partner states of BBMB, including Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. During the



meeting, it was advised to carry out the decision of the board to release extra water from Bhakra Dams. It was also agreed that during the filling period of dams, the board will provide this excess water to Punjab to fulfil any additional requirements. It will immediately convene a meeting of the Board to work out the modalities of implementing the release of extra water to Haryana.
