Centre is considering a proposal to enhance punishment for drunk driving by amending sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of Indian Penal Code, IPC. Centre's counsel Parag Vyas informed Bombay High Court that a draft bill pertaining to amendment to the relevant sections of IPC is being



scrutinized and finalised in this regard. 
A bench of Justices Abhay Oka and Gautam Patel was hearing a Public Interest Litigation seeking compensation from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for the victims of the 2002 hit-and-run case. Khan was acquitted by another High Court judge in the case last week.
