The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices, MSP for fourteen Kharif crops for Marketing Season 2025-26. Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said government has increased the MSP of Kharif crops for Marketing Season 2025-26, to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce. The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for nigerseed at 820 rupees per quintal, followed by Ragi at 596 rupees per quintal, Cotton at 589 rupees per quintal and Sesamum at 579 rupees per quintal.
Besides, the MSP of Maize has been increased by 175 rupees per quintal, Bajra by 150 rupees Jowar by 328 rupees, Paddy by 69 rupees per quintal. While among pulses, MSP of Tur has been increased by 450 rupees per quintal, Moong by 86 rupees and Urad by 400 rupees per quintal and in Oilseed, the MSP of Groundnut has been enhanced by 480 rupees, Sunflower Seed by 441 rupees and Soyabean by 436 rupees per quintal. Mr Vaishnaw said that due to the decision, the total amount estimated over the MSP of these crops is around two lakh crore rupees. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused that farmers must get at least 50 percent margin on their cost.
Union Cabinet has also approved the continuation of the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) for the Financial year 2025-26 with the existing 1.5 per cent Interest Subvention. The government has approved 15 thousand 642 crore rupees. MISS is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at ensuring the availability of short-term credit to farmers at an affordable interest rate through Kisan Credit card -KCC. Under the scheme farmers received short-term loans of up to 3 lakh rupees through KCC at a subsidized interest rate of 7 percent with 1.5 percent interest subvention provided to eligible lending
institutions. Additionally, farmers repaying loans promptly are eligible for an incentive of up to three percent .
Briefing media, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the cost of working capital of the farmers has been reduced by the Interest Subvention Scheme and special emphasis has been laid on providing a capital of two lakh rupees for an interest rate of four percent under the scheme. He added that 449 banks and financial institutions have been included on a single portal for farmers.
Cabinet has also approved two multitracking projects across Indian Railways in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The initiatives will improve travel convenience, reduce logistic cost, decrease oil imports and contribute to lower CO2 emissions, supporting sustainable and efficient rail operations. The total estimated cost of the projects is 3,399 crore rupees and will be completed upto 2029-30. Mr Vaishnaw said that the projects include four-lining of Ratlam- Nagda Railway line and another four-lining of Wardha Ballarshah line. He said, the entire railway network is mapped on PM Gati Shakti Master Plan.
Mr Vaishnaw also informed that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of 4-lane Badvel-Nellore Corridor with a length of over 108 kilometres at a cost of around 3653 crore rupees in Andhra Pradesh on NH(67) on Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer Mode.
The approved Badvel-Nellore corridor will provide connectivity to important nodes in the three Industrial Corridors of Andhra Pradesh. These are Kopparthy Node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, Orvakal Node on Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and Krishnapatnam Node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. This will have a positive impact on the Logistic Performance Index of the country.
