The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Indian Police Service officer of Punjab, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, along with a private individual, in a bribery case.
A 2009-batch IPS officer, currently posted as DIG of the Ropar Range, has been arrested by the CBI at his office in Chandigarh. The arrest followed a trap laid by the central agency after a complaint was received.
The officer allegedly demanded
a bribe through a middleman to settle an FIR filed against the complainant.
The CBI has recovered substantial cash, which is more than 5 crores rupees, and incriminating material from his various premises, besides 1.5 kilogram jewellery, documents pertaining to immovable properties and assets in Punjab.
Luxury items, arms, and ammunition have also been recovered. Searches and further investigation is still on.
