Cabinet approves re-promulgation of triple talaq ordinance

Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved re-promulgation of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, 2019, which makes instant triple talaq a criminal offence.

It also makes all declarations of instant triple talaq void and illegal and the practice a punishable offence with imprisonment of three years.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the Cabinet also gave its nod to re-promulgate the Companies (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2019  and Indian Medical Council Amendment Ordinance 2019.





The Minister said, these ordinances have been sent to the President for his assent.

The Union Cabinet also approved additional DA of three per cent over the existing rate of nine per cent to Central government employees and dearness relief to pensioners.

Finance Minister Jaitley said, it will be effective from 1st of January 2019.
