Three fishermen were rescued after their fibre boat capsized near the new port on Sunday night. Chandrakumar, a resident of Madhavan Nair Colony here, along with his son Madasamy and another fisherman Ashok Kumar, had gone for fishing off the Threspuram coast.

While hauling their nets, the boat’s engine rope became entangled. Tossed by the waves, the boat dashed against a rock and overturned, leaving the

three fishermen stranded in mid-sea.

After alerted and helped by the local fishermen, the Coastal Security Group Police and the Thermal Nagar Police rescued the three fishermen struggling in the sea with injuries and sent them to Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The boat, valued at Rs 3 lakh, was recovered on Monday. It sustained extensive damage.
