Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, The ruling BJP registered a thumping victory in the biennial elections of the Legislative Council. The ruling party won 33 seats, including nine unopposed out of 36 vacant seats.
BJP won 24 out of the 27 seats for which counting took place Tuesday. It has already unanimously won nine of the 36 council seats as it contested unopposed.
Although party lost Varanasi seat where an independent candidate got success. BJP lost Azamgarh also where it's rebel candidate who fought independently got the success. Pratapgarh's seat went to the fold of Jansatta dal Lok Tantrik. A total of 95 candidates were in fray for these seats for which
voting took place on 9th of April.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated all the winning candidates in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections. In a tweet, Mr Modi said this victory is a result of people's faith in BJP's development model.
BJP President J P Nadda yesterday said his party's victory in UP MLC elections is the approval of double engine government in the state. In a tweet, Mr. Nadda said, after the UP assembly polls, the BJP has created history by registering a landslide victory in the Legislative Council elections. He congratulated all the newly elected members.
