The 550th birth anniversary of the first Sikh guru and founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated across the country as Prakash Parv yesterday.

Guru Nanak Dev was born on the full moon day of Kartik month or Kartik Poornima in 1469. Devotees organise langar at various places on this occasion.

Dev Deepawali was also celebrated on the full moon night of the month of Kartik. President Ram Nath Kovind visited the historical town, Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar attended the function at Huzoor Sahib Sachkhand Gurudwara at Nanded in Maharashtra.

In Bihar, a large number of devotees paid their obeisance at Takhat Shri Harimandir Sahib in Patna on Guru Purab.

Beside devotees from abroad, people from other parts of the country took part in the celebrations. Special Ardhas paid to the first guru of Sikhism. The President, Vice President and Prime Minister have greeted people on Guru Nanak Jayanti.

In Assam, 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji celebrated with religious fervour.



Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal greeted people on this occasion.

Union Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy said Guru Nanak Dev’s preachings hold relevance to the present-day context. He was speaking after visiting the special photo exhibition held by the Regional Outreach Bureau of I&B Ministry in Hyderabad.

In Madhya Pradesh, Prakash Parv celebrated with enthusiasm. According to available records, Guru Nanak visited Madhya Pradesh twice.

In Andhra Pradesh, the 550th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated with traditional fervour. Various programmes were organised across the State.

In Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion of Kartik Poornima, lakhs of devotees had taken a holy dip since early morning in the river Ganga and its tributaries. Dev Deepawali, the Deepawali of Gods also celebrated across the state.

In Varanasi, the Dev Deepawali was celebrated by the lighting of  11 Lakh earthen lamps on the banks of river Ganga.
