Bihar SIR: Draft electoral roll published

The Election Commission yesterday published the draft electoral roll for Bihar prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign . Eligible voters whose names have been left out or deleted from the list can file claims and objections for inclusion till 1st September. Under this special campaign SIR, the details of over 7.89 crore voters were verified from 24th June to 25th July. 

As part of the revision process, more than 65.62 lakh names have been deleted from the list which was used in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Among the 38 districts of the state, Patna recorded the highest number of deletions, with 3.95 lakh names removed from the preliminary electoral roll. In Madhubani, about 3.52 lakh names and in Gopalganj, 3.10 lakh names were excluded due to the non-submission of enumeration forms and other reasons.

In the Seemanchal region, Purnea district witnessed the highest number of deletions, with 2.73 lakh names removed from the previous voters list. The Commission stated that during the SIR campaign 22.34 lakh voters were found to be deceased. More than 36.28 lakh voters were found to have permanently shifted to other locations or their whereabouts could not be traced by BLOs during SIR exercise. Over 7 lakh voters were found to be registered in two different assembly



constituencies. 

A total of more than 7.24 crore enumeration forms were submitted, and today’s draft electoral roll has been published based on those submissions. Copies of the draft roll have been distributed to all 243 Assembly Constituency Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and recognized political parties. It is also available online on ECI website www.voters.eci.gov.in From tomorrow, special camps will be organized at block offices and other urban local body offices across the state to accept claim and objection applications from genuine voters, political parties and eligible citizens.

These camps will remain open from 10 AM to 5 PM. Additionally, applicants can also submit Form 6 for claims and objections either online or offline. Similarly other forms can be submitted for correction and objections. To collect applications from eligible voters, more than 90,000 BLOs have been deployed across all 243 assembly constituencies. For senior citizens and persons with disabilities, claims and objections applications will be collected from their residences. All claims and objections will be resolved by September 25, and the final electoral roll will be published on September 30. The upcoming Assembly elections in the state will be conducted based on this final electoral roll.
