In Bihar, the state cabinet yesterday approved  125 units of free electricity to domestic consumers in the state. The single-point agenda for free electricity was taken up in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yesterday.

This relief to the domestic consumers will be provided under Mukhya Mantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana.

According to the decision, 125 units of free electricity will be provided to consumers from 1st August this year under 100 percent subsidy.

The burden of subsidy will be borne by Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited so



the state government has sanctioned an amount of 3797 crore rupees for the company under current financial year.

The cabinet also approved a new policy to promote solar energy, Under which the domestic consumers will get assistance to install 1.1 kw Solar power plants.

For beneficiaries of Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the total cost of installation of the solar power plant.

The government estimates that over the next three years, up to 10,000 megawatts of solar energy will also become available.
